Obituary for Gina Lynne Allonby (Nanton)

On August 7, while camping with her husband Bruce, Gina was suddenly called to Heaven at the age of 54.

Gina is survived by her husband of 19 years, Bruce of Nanton; her parents Dave and Shirley Atkinson of Olds, her sister Karen Meyer and her husband Kevin of Calgary as well as her brother Keith Atkinson and his wife Brenda of Lethbridge.

Gina is also survived by her parents-in-law, Joan and Kendall Allonby of Nanton, her stepdaughter Jessica Allonby of Nanton, stepsons Jason Allonby and Justin Allonby both of Lethbridge as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends everywhere. It would be a mistake to forget her cats Simon, Emma and Ellie.

Gina was born April 12, 1965 in Edmonton and after a winding route that included Aklavik NWT, Summerland B.C., Inuvik NWT, Guelph Ontario and Calgary before settling in the Nanton area where upon she married Bruce and resided on the family farm east of town until her passing.

Gina was a very eclectic person. Her passion for reading was only surpassed by her love of cooking. She also enjoyed gardening; she could always be counted on to have at least 50 flowerpots on the deck as well as numerous house plants. She could always be counted on to help on the farm as best she could, especially around calving time. In the spring, nothing made her face light up more than watching calves frolic.

Gina had a very bright personality and could light up an entire room just by entering it. She also has a quick wit and a great sense of humour, best exemplified by a private joke that she and Bruce shared that began accidently when one day she inadvertently closed a text to Bruce with “I Lobe You” instead of “I Love You”. “I Lobe You” soon became both Gina and Bruce’s standard closing from there on in. Rest assured, Gina’s “Lobe” of life knows no bounds.

For a number of years, Gina drove school bus, first from Nanton to Claresholm, later into Nanton. Each and every child that set foot on her bus immediately became one of her kids and she often provided them with homemade treats on Fridays. It wasn’t long before Gina’s bus became known as the “Cookie Bus”.

A Celebration of Gina’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Snodgrass Funeral Home in High River, Pastor Jeff Enfield officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.
