Obituary for George Albert Snider (High River)

George Albert Snider passed away peacefully at the High River Hospital on May 15, 2019 at the age of 90 following a brief illness. George was the only child of Harold and Edith Snider. He was raised on the family farm near Blackie, Alberta and took his schooling at the Pleasant Plains, Ridgeview and Blackie schools. George took over the family farm in 1959 when his parents moved to High River.

George saw a lot of changes in farming practices over the years - from using horses which he really didn’t like that much to farming with more modern equipment. He could fix most anything and quite often came up with some sort of invention to make things easier.

George retired from farming in 1980 and moved to Blackie in 1985 then to the Medicine Tree Manor in 2018.

Family and friends of George’s will fondly miss his quick wit, dry sense of humour and colourful tales of the “good old days”. He embodied the term “true gentleman”.

George is survived by his two sons, Doug (Linda) and Ken (Patsy), daughter-in-law Janet, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Marion in 1988, his second wife Ruth in 2012 and son Jim in 2008.

In respect to George’s wishes a private family service will be held on May 21, 2019 to celebrate this exceptional man’s life. George will be laid to rest with his wife, Marion at the Highwood Cemetery in High River.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in George’s memory to a charity of your choice.
