What is the value of a Funeral?
A funeral is an important part of the mourning process and fulfills the needs of the bereaved.

Why are viewings important?
This is helpful in accepting that death has occurred. It is especially helpful to the immediate family but also to the extended family and friends. The opportunity to physically say goodbye is a very important part of the grief process.
What is embalming?
Embalming is the Preservation, Sanitization and Restoration of the deceased human body. Embalming is an extremely important procedure to protect the Health and Safety of the funeral home staff as well as the public. Most funeral homes will have mandatory embalming if other arrangements have not been made within a set time frame (e.g. 48 hours).
With earth burial, do I have to purchase a vault? V
ault requirements vary from cemetery to cemetery, some have mandatory requirements while others do not require any type of vault. Burial vaults are always something that should be considered whether required or not. Settling of, and the weight of the earth can cause the casket to collapse. Moisture and other elements can also enter the casket.
What can I do with the cremated remains?
Cremated remains may be kept at home, buried in a cemetery, placed in a columbarium, or scattered. In Alberta there are no laws prohibiting the scattering of remains. It is always a good idea to ask for permission when scattering on private land. If you are on crown land they ask that you avoid any waterways.

How long will it take for the CPP death benefit to be processed?
Standard time frame will vary between 6 and 10 weeks. Processing may take longer if the deceased worked in other countries.
What amount of money does the CPP Death Benefit provide?
To estimate this amount take the last CPP benefit cheque that the deceased received and multiply it by 6. This will be an approximate amount (to a maximum of $2500.00) that will be received.
