Traditional Ceremony

Traditionally, the funeral is held in a church or funeral home chapel, but may also be held in an alternate location at the family's request.  The family decides on a public or private ceremony, considering which format will best serve the needs of all involved.  A member of the clergy may be asked to conduct the service or, in non-religious ceremonies, a family member, close friend or celebrant is asked to speak.

Often, a eulogy is delivered, hymns chosen, special music played, passages of scripture or poems selected and presented, or special requests of the deceased honored.  Special belongings of the deceased are brought to the service and set up, such as cowboy hats or favorite hobbies which serve to personalize the ceremony and to reflect on the life lived.

Video tributes have also become increasingly popular since we are able to put together many photographs from throughout the deceased's life into a lasting "Life Portrait" that is shown during the service.  The personalized video tribute will also included some of the deceased's favorite music which is played in the background while the video is being shown.

The traditional funeral often includes viewing of the deceased, especially by the immediate family as it is helpful in the process of accepting death and an important step in the process of resolution of grief.  A private and quiet setting is provided for this purpose.  The committal service concludes the ceremony and is conducted at the graveside, crematorium or church/chapel usually by a member of the clergy.
